Used International MaxxForce DT Diesel Engines for Sale

Tested used International MaxxForce DT engines with warranty coverage and nationwide freight.

The International MaxxForce DT is Navistar's emissions-era (roughly 2007 to 2016) evolution of the DT466 and DT466E — a 7.6-liter (466 cu in) inline-six medium-duty turbodiesel, essentially the proven DT466E long-block fitted with modern emissions hardware. Machinery and Truck Parts stocks tested used MaxxForce DT engines, run-tested before shipping and backed by warranty. What Trucks and Buses Use the MaxxForce DT

International DuraStar (4300 and 4400) and WorkStar trucks, International medium-duty chassis, and IC Bus school buses, plus vocational and utility trucks.

DT466 to DT466E to MaxxForce DT

The DT466 (mechanical) became the DT466E (electronic), and the MaxxForce DT is the 2007-and-later emissions-era continuation of the same 7.6-liter engine. The pre-2007 DT466E is simpler (no EGR or DPF); the MaxxForce DT carries the full emissions stack.

Common MaxxForce DT Problems and What to Check When Buying Used

The 7.6-liter long-block is respected; the emissions hardware is the weak point (this engine came from Navistar's difficult EGR-only period). Check the EGR cooler (coolant loss with white smoke is the signature failure), EGR valve fouling, DPF clogging and failed regens, the high-pressure oil pump and oil cooler, HEUI injectors, and the variable-geometry turbo. Maintenance history matters a lot, and every engine we sell is run-tested first.

MaxxForce DT Engine FAQ

Is the MaxxForce DT the same as the DT466?

It is the direct descendant — the DT466 and DT466E rebranded in 2007 with added emissions hardware; the roughly 7.6-liter inline-six long-block is closely related.

Is the MaxxForce DT the same as the DT466E?

Nearly; the DT466E is the pre-2007 electronic version and the MaxxForce DT is its 2007-and-later emissions-compliant continuation.

What years is the MaxxForce DT?

Roughly the 2007/2008 model year through about 2015 to 2016.

What trucks use the MaxxForce DT?

International DuraStar (4300 and 4400) and WorkStar trucks, medium-duty chassis, and IC Bus school buses.

How much power does a MaxxForce DT make?

About 210 to 300 hp and up to roughly 860 lb-ft, depending on the rating.

Does the MaxxForce DT use common rail?

No; it uses a HEUI system (high-pressure oil-actuated injectors) carried over from the DT466E.

Are MaxxForce DT engines reliable?

The base engine is durable and rebuildable, but the emissions components (EGR cooler and valve, DPF, high-pressure oil pump, injectors, turbo) are the common trouble spots.

What are the most common MaxxForce DT problems?

EGR cooler failure (coolant loss and white smoke), EGR valve fouling, DPF clogging and regen issues, high-pressure oil pump and oil-cooler problems, injector wear, and sticking variable-geometry turbo.
