Used International DT466E Diesel Engines for Sale

Tested used International DT466E engines with warranty coverage and nationwide freight.

The International DT466E is the electronically controlled, HEUI-injected evolution of the legendary DT466 — a 7.6-liter (466 cu in) inline-six, wet-sleeve medium-duty diesel built from roughly 1994 to 2004, rated about 175 to 300 hp. It is one of the most rebuildable, long-lived medium-duty engines ever made. Machinery and Truck Parts stocks tested used DT466E engines, run-tested before shipping and backed by warranty. What Trucks and Equipment Use the DT466E

International medium-duty trucks (dump, box and straight, moving, utility, and vocational), International and IC school buses, shuttle and transit buses, fire apparatus, and construction equipment.

DT466 vs DT466E vs MaxxForce DT

The DT466 (mechanical injection) evolved into the DT466E (electronic ECM plus HEUI injection, about 1994 to 2004), succeeded by the emissions-era MaxxForce DT from 2007. All share the same 7.6-liter block.

Common DT466E Problems and What to Check When Buying Used

The DT466E is known for durability, and its wet-sleeve design allows in-frame rebuilds without pulling the engine. On a used unit check the HEUI injectors; the high-pressure oil pump, IPR valve, and ICP sensor (the usual causes of hard or no-start, especially hot); and cylinder-liner cavitation (the leading rebuild trigger, prevented by correct coolant additive levels). Every DT466E we sell is run-tested before it ships.

DT466E Engine FAQ

What trucks use the DT466E?

International medium-duty trucks such as dump, box, moving, and utility trucks, plus International and IC school buses, fire trucks, and construction equipment.

Is the DT466E a good engine?

Yes. It has a strong reputation for durability and long service life, with HEUI and high-pressure-oil-system upkeep and coolant cavitation prevention being the main care items.

How many miles does a DT466E last?

Commonly around 500,000 to 550,000 miles to a first overhaul (B50), with many well-maintained units going further.

What is the difference between the DT466, DT466E, and MaxxForce DT?

The DT466 uses mechanical injection, the DT466E adds an electronic ECM and HEUI injection (about 1994 to 2004), and the MaxxForce DT is the 2007-and-later emissions-era successor. All share the same 7.6-liter block.

What are the most common DT466E problems?

HEUI injector wear, high-pressure oil pump, IPR valve, and ICP sensor faults that cause hard or no starts, and coolant cavitation that pits the cylinder liners.

Why will not my DT466E start when hot?

Usually low injection control pressure from a worn IPR valve, a leaking high-pressure oil pump, or a failed ICP sensor.

How much horsepower does a DT466E make?

Roughly 175 to 300 hp depending on the rating, with peak torque up to about 860 lb-ft.

Can a DT466E be rebuilt in the truck?

Yes. Its wet-sleeve design allows in-frame overhauls without removing the engine.
