Mack diesel engines are closely tied to the brand's highway and vocational trucks, including older E6 and E7 platforms, E-Tech and ASET versions, and later MP7 and MP8 engines. Depending on the generation, these engines can be found in road tractors as well as dump trucks, refuse trucks, concrete mixers, roll-offs, and other severe-service vehicles. Older MIDR and related Mack powerplants also remain important for keeping established work trucks and specialized equipment in service.
Because Mack engine installations changed with chassis series and emissions generations, model name alone does not confirm interchange. Engine serial number, horsepower and torque calibration, V-MAC or ECM electronics, emissions hardware, front accessories, flywheel housing, and oil-pan or sump position should all be compared with the original setup.
